Trigger Warning: the article contains some pretty horrible trans bigotry.
I think what we have here is a very good example of how a privileged person can use their own privilege as a weapon. Kelly Osbourne is generally considered a straight ally. She’s worked with Cyndi Lauper on the Give a Damn campaign, she’s actively worked on promoting tolerance and equality for the LGBT community… until her fiance cheated on her with a trans woman.
And then she immediately launched into this bigoted, horrible hate-speech that dehumanizes trans people everywhere. With friends like this, the LGBT community doesn’t need enemies.
Hint for those that don’t get it: It is NEVER OK to use hate speech against someone, no matter what they’ve done to you. She could have spoken about being angry, about being hurt and humiliated, and about feeling betrayed without turning those personal feelings into an attack against all trans people.
I’ll write more about this later… I’m genuinely sad and angry about this.
