I know that the topic of cultural appropriation gets really confusing on tumblr- I’ve seen a few debates on the topic that made my head hurt and I don’t think the concept is often discussed in a way that makes it easy to understand- and I think the term is often misused. That doesn’t mean it isn’t very real, and very much a part of our history- and anyone who’s a little fuzzy on the concept and wants to learn more about it would do well to read Sherman Alexie’s “The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian”. It’s YA fiction, but it’s the best work I’ve ever seen for introducing people to the concept.
